A Variational Approach to Determine the Optimal Power Distribution for Cycling in a Time Trial
نویسندگان
چکیده
The optimal pacing strategy of a cyclist in an individual time-trial depends on terrain, weather conditions and the cyclists endurance capacity. Previous experimental and theoretical studies have shown that a suboptimal pacing strategy may have a substantial negative effect. In this paper we express the optimal pacing problem as a mathematical optimal control problem which we solve using Pontryagin's maximum principle. Our solution of the pacing problem is partly numerical and partly analytical. It applies to a straight course without bends. It turns out that the optimal pacing problem is a singular control problem. Intricate mathematical arguments are required to prove that the singular control times form a single interval: optimal pacing starts with maximum power and decays through a singular control, which may be degenerate, to minimum power. © 2016 The Authors. متن کاملA Mixed Integer Programming Approach to Optimal Feeder Routing for Tree-Based Distribution System: A Case Study
A genetic algorithm is proposed to optimize a tree-structured power distribution network considering optimal cable sizing. For minimizing the total cost of the network, a mixed-integer programming model is presented determining the optimal sizes of cables with minimized location-allocation cost. For designing the distribution lines in a power network, the primary factors must be considered as m...

متن کاملOptimal Capacitor Allocation in Radial Distribution Networks for Annual Costs Minimization Using Hybrid PSO and Sequential Power Loss Index Based Method
In the most recent heuristic methods, the high potential buses for capacitor placement are initially identified and ranked using loss sensitivity factors (LSFs) or power loss index (PLI). These factors or indices help to reduce the search space of the optimization procedure, but they may not always indicate the appropriate placement of capacitors. This paper proposes an efficient approach for t...
